What does the phrase "never look a gift horse in the mouth" mean?
By admin on Jan. 29, 2010.
It means you should be thankful for things that other people give you without expecting anything in return, even if it isn’t perfect or exactly what you need.
Where the saying comes from:
A horses teeth are a good sign of how healthy the animal is. When a horse is bought the perspective owner looks into the mouth to see what condition the teeth are in.
If a horse is given to you as a gift you should be thankful for the gesture, even if it doesn’t have perfect teeth.
