What does the saying"Dont look a gift horse in the mouth" mean?

Someone gives you something, let say, a sofa that as a leg that comes loose if you move it, do not bitch and gripe about that small inconvenience. It was free, now you have a sofa to loounge on.
Comes from someone looking into the horse’s mouth to make sure all the teeth are there and not any are missing.
