should i use a Claire’s labret ring for a fresh piercing?
By admin on Mar. 7, 2010.
i got a horse shoe ring from Claire’s for my lip ring I’m planning on piercing my 3ed holes in my ears and i was wondering if anyone has experience should i use the Claire’s jewelry for a fresh piercing? also to pierce my own ear should i use an apple?
i would never recommend claire’s jewelry to anyone for a new piercing. Especially if you’re planning on doing the piercing yourself, it’s not a good idea, but no one can stop you. But i’d say you should probably get piercing jewelry from a place that specializes in it, like those piercing jewelry stands in the mall have good quality and a huge selection of piercing jewelry.
EDIT: it would be pretty hard to pierce your ear by yourself while holding an apple behind your ear. You could either, do the piercing yourself without an apple behind your ear, or have a friend do it for you.
good luck.

What would you do with a "mouthy" horse?
By admin on Mar. 4, 2010.
The horse is a 3 yr old filly. She is very "mouthy", she like to grab things (ropes, things hanging on the fence) as well as your clothes, jewelry, hair, boots, skin. She is not really biting, only once in a while can I really feel her teeth. I am worried about other people, or if your not really paying attention.
This is a horse that I am working with and I haven’t really done anything to stop or change the behavior. But I have been told that different thing have been tried such as, a slap to the neck/shoulder, pinching of the lips, slap on the chest….blah blah blah.
So what can I try to get her to stop?
Thanks
Do not slap or pinch, Do what Piaffe said, and block the mouth with your elbow. That allows her to play with things on the fence or pick up brushes if she has the need but to learn that you and other humans are off limits. Most horses learn that this block (it includes a quick bump because they are moving and you have met them) isn’t fun and quit pretty soon. However, for the horse that doesn’t learn the lesson, step 2:
If after a few days of the elbow bump repeat, your horse still is grabbing you, go to the next level. With a halter and lead and no time schedule, groom your horse. The first instant she tries to mouth you, disengage her rear, back her up, or do a mini lunge forward. This puts her feet to work. When you stop you go back to your grooming. Repeat as many times a necessary. This teaches your horse that the mouthy behavior directed at you puts her to quick work and YOU direct those feet. This is pretty cool to watch how they sort through this lesson and rapidly learn that the mouthy behavior means work and they’d soon rather stand there. I have a very mouthy young mustang and I blocked with an elbow about 100 times one day. He didn’t care. The next day I disengaged the rear (he knew how to do this from prior groundwork) and put him to work with those feet. You could just see those wheels grinding away in his head after about 6 times of that. Do I go in with the mouth or not? His decision. To follow the Dorrance and Ray Hunt theory: Make the wrong thing difficult and the right thing easy.
Now I don’t care if he wants to play with a rubber grooming tool or an old cotton lead. He just can’t grab me. Your horse will figure this out if you do it right.

Changing septum piercing jewelry? Please help!?
By admin on Mar. 1, 2010.
I got my septum pierced back in January & the jewelry is crooked (like the actual piece because my horse whacked it lol). I was wondering is it to early to change it? I have a new horseshoe ring that I love that I want to put in.
Also any tips on how to change it? I’m really nervous about messing up … Is it possible if I go back to the piercer they’d help me change it?
Thank you & any advice is appreciated!
thank you, i talked to my piercer a little bit ago and he said he’d be more then happy to help me. thank you guys for the advice!
if your too nervous to do it yourself, then you can absolutely go back o your piercer, ask them to tell you how to change it for next time, i’m sure they will be very happy to help.

What do you buy a 18 year old girl for her birthday?
By admin on Feb. 26, 2010.
I am trying to figure out what to buy my sister for her 18 birthday. She is a clothes horse (she is the only one that picks her clothes), already has a camera, and will be getting a ipod from our parents. Jewelry is out also. What is a unique gift to give? (Please give mature answers)
Spa day! Please… Now a days every woman can use some relax-me time! If u don’t have that much money, just buy her flowers or a CD! Remember, u r her sis and she’ll love whatever u give her. Whatever u decide make sure u have a nice card with it!

pet jewelry?
By admin on Feb. 23, 2010.
i lost my horse jackie a year ago and i have a lock of her mane how can i make it into jewelry or pottery?
You can find artists on line, like this lady: http://www.suzannestorms.com/ who will make custom jewelry from your horses hair.
I carry a lock of my dear departed gelding tail on a chain. It’s so hard to lose a much loved horse and having a little something, to keep close to you, can really help when you miss them most.

What to spend my pocket money on?
By admin on Feb. 20, 2010.
I’m a 13 year old girl, i like horse riding, perfume, jewelry and shopping. Any ideas what to spend my pocket money on?? I get £10 a month. I would like to open up a bank account, but have no idea how to. Any ideas would be great thanks ![]()
i think you should save it up. (: yes i know, it’s really boring to save up.
it’s coming up to christmas soon and it’s always good to have money spare.
also you dont have to save all of it. if you need money you could keep some aside for when it’s really needed.
if you want to open up a bank account, ask your parents about it and see what they say. they shouldn’t mind if you tell them that you want to save up.
i’m not sure if you can get any card accounts at the age of 13. but joining a building society really helps. and as your money builds up, you get more interest. the one i was with had a pretty decent interest rate. but it’s only in nottingham areas.
ask your parents, they’re the adults so they should know.(:

What are the dangers of wearing perfume and jewellery when grooming a horse ?
By admin on Feb. 17, 2010.
I’ve NEVER had an issue wearing perfume around a horse but the biggest problems about wearing jewelry around them is losing the jewelry!
Typically I lose ONE concho earring a year and normally in the arena. Broken Horn keeps the clip on backs in stock just for me and makes me up another one.
In the 1980’s I twice lost valuable pieces of jewelry. The first time, it was my 1 1/2" sterling silver concho that matches my earrings (Kind of a trademark, here). I called Mario at BH and whined and cried and ordered another one which would be just a bit larger than the one I’d had for over a decade back then. About a week later, one of my buddies came over to me at the barn and handed me my lost concho, claiming that my old QH had been digging around his up turned feed tub so my friend went into the stall and when he turned the tub back up, there was my necklace!
Then there was my late mom’s engagement ring… It went "PING" when the band broke as we were loading up for a horseshow. I didn’t miss it until I got back to the barn after the show and looked down to find the ring guards in tact, but NO RING!
I quickly ran to a jewelry store, had another ring made with a diamond (To the tune of about $800.00!) and replaced the ring in the ring guards. A month or so later… I pulled my horsetrailer out of the driveway and took a horse to an auction. I got home, my dad asked me if I had Mom’s ring… Well I lied through my teeth and went and got the ring set in the ring guards and showed my dad. He never said a word. Upon his death, I went through his jewelry box and there was the original ring, band fixed… Boy did I feel DUMB!
