Equestrian 2012
By admin on May. 17, 2012.
An important aspect of the Elaine Coyne Galleries’ collections has always been our equestrian motifs. As a young girl I did some riding and always loved it. As a special dream, my Dad said I could get a horse of my own for my 12th birthday and keep it in our garage in our NYC home. Of course, a NYC garage is no place for a horse but, young girls are such dreamers. My Dad figured I would grow out of my desire by 10 years old and the dream would fall by the wayside.
Well, I guess he was wrong. The love affair with a phantom horse never died and instead, each and every year, I am destined to come out with new and touching horse motifs in collectible jewelry and designer belts. They satisfy my dream and hope they satisfy yours.

How to make horse hair jewelry?
By admin on Feb. 7, 2012.
such as a bracelet, necklace, key chain, ect.
For a bracelet first measure the wrist or take a good estimate on the size. Then take the horse hair and divide it into three sections.I usually tape the top of the three ends to something so its a nice tight braid. You just braid it like you would braid anything else and you can do different types of braids too.For a necklace you do the same thing as the bracelet. For a key chain you can either braid the hair or you just leave it hang on the key ring.I’ve learned that it helps if you wash the horse hair first. It also helps if you use a hair straightener on it before you start braiding.I use the hair straightener on it after I braid it to it just seems to get it to stay in a braid longer.

Can you ask your piercer to use specific jewelry when you get it done?
By admin on Jan. 4, 2012.
I want him to put in a black horse shoe ring in my septum because I’m gonna flip it up and hide it. I’m going to a place that doesn’t ID, my friend goes there and it’s all clean and sterile, so I don’t wanna hear it.
If I ask for black jewelry would they use that? Or just silver.
They ONLY have surgical steel. (That’s the silver jewlery)
& i think they will use a captive hoop. You can ask though.
But i have no idea what your shop has, i’m just saying what mine does.

How to deal with stinky horse hair?
By admin on Nov. 9, 2011.
I recently started braiding horse hair jewelry, and one of my clients gave me the filthiest hair I have ever had to use. Usually I simply shampoo the hair once. However, I shampooed this hair three times with two different shampoos, scrubbed it with dial soap, and shampooed it a third time… it still reeks of urine and feces. I hate to turn the client down since I’m just getting started… isn’t there anything I can do to get rid of the smell without ruining the hair?
Ok, update! So far, I have tried baking soda and lemon juice, both human and horse shampoo, dial soap, pet urine eliminator, and straight vinegar. None of these things have worked. I would really hate to meet the horse that owns this hair!
Vinegar will get the smell of urine out-its what we use before shows on the mares who pee on their tails light colored tails.
ADD:
It won’t reek of vinegar if you wash it with regular shampoo afterward.
Good lord.
