what does it mean ? to not look a gift horse in the mouth?

By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.

and then does it apply to spiritual gifts or religion in any part?

Looking a gift horse in the mouth is not an exclusively religious phrase. It’s a common proverb. One way to tell if a horse is a good animal is by the healthy look in its mouth, and horses used to be a huge part of life and wealth. I don’t know a lot about horses, so I wouldn’t know exactly what to look for in a horse’s mouth, but the point is that if someone were to give you a horse, you say "hey great a horse!" instead of looking into the mouth as if to say "you gave me this gift but I need to check and see if it’s really a good one, and if it’s not you’re a lame gift-giver."

The phrase simply means that you shouldn’t be picky if someone is offering you a gift. Accept it gracefully.

where does the saying, "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" come from ?

By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.

I’ve been saying it for years and never knew the origin.

It comes from the idea that you can tell a horse’s age and health by looking at it’s teeth, which is true. So that said you wouldn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth because you might not like what you see…..but it’s a gift so take it. hope that helps

(FUN!) What’s your dream farm and/or house?

By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.

This is a fun question, aimed toward people who are still dreaming about their ideal home and farm/ranch.

What kind of house do you dream of having on your own farm?

How many horses would you want on your property?
How many stalls in the barn?
How many acres?
What state would you want to live?

My dream home:

A medium-sized log cabin-style home, with western-themed decor (wall hangings, furniture, etc)
A 5-stall barn
A miniature pony and 2-3 horses
About 20 acres
State: Montana
Mountain view!

So how about YOU!?

My answers:

I want a house built out of cream colored stone, maybe 2 floors (Like a ranch style (Long), but with 2 floors instead of one) that are whole floors, and then a third floor in the center of the roof. I would want a 2 story entry and living room (you know, stairs to a balcony). I would want it to just be comfortably furnished with neutral pieces in the living/dining/kitchen areas, and then show the personality in the bedrooms. I think I’d go for more english-style decor, but anything horse related!

How many horses?

Seeing as I want to own a boarding/breeding/rescue/training/lesson stable with a vet practice attached (I want to be an equine vet), I’d say 40-50 horses (not mine) depending. Obviously I’d have trainers and stable hands.

How many stalls?

Probably 60 in the boarding/lesson barn, 10 in the rescue, 10 in the breeding. I’d want my own private barn for my horses though, so maybe 6-10 stalls in that.

How many acres?

At least 50, preferably 100-500, even more if possible.

State?

Virginia, Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida, or Wyoming. I’m open to having it in any of those, but I’d like Virginia/Maine/Pennsylvania because my family lives in the Pittsburgh/Latrobe PA/Canton Ohio areas.

I would want it to have large wooded area (Like at the base of a mountain, preferably) so that you could go trail riding, but I’d also want lots of field space too (Cross Country course!)

I really want to have a stone barn (Cream again) with a gray shingled roof. I think it’d look really cool. I would want an indoor arena that was split like this: One 20×40 dressage, one standard (Or slightly larger) jumping. I would also want 2 outdoors (One sand, one grass) for jumping, and a couple of outdoor dressage arenas (One sand, one grass). I’d probably have the indoor located in the middle of the barn, and have the stalls form a ring around it, with a tack room in each outer corner of the aisles with private lockers in it. I’d also do lesson horses and tack in the front so the students don’t have to walk through all the boarder’s horses.

Where Can I find Horse Tack items for my Horses?

By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.

I am in need of lots of items for my horses such as Saddle Pads, BareBack Pads, horse clothing, Horse Reins and lots of other Horse Equipment. I own about 80 Horses altogether so looking for a website that sells this kind of stuff at wholesale pricing.

If there are any other horse breeders out there please let me know where you buy your Horse Accessories. I heard about http://www.horsetacknow.com but want to see if there are cheaper alternatives before I buy.

I personally also use http://www.horsetacknow.com since they offer free shipping when purchasing over $75. However I also recommend http://www.onestopequineshop.com since they have thousands of products available.

Hope I was able to help and hope you find the products you are in need of. I also recommend searching google for: Horse Tack Equipment, Horse Saddles etc… :)

is it wise to throw away horse shoe that was gifted to my husband by his ex?

By admin on Jan. 16, 2010.

he had to throw away all of the gifts b4 our wedding but i got superstitious about the horse shoe. secondly does it really matter if the horse shoes faces downwards. he says its got him no luck but rather unpleasantries since long. lastly he hung it in the interior of the main door. is there any rule to hang it in front? n how to dispose it off if we decdie to do so?

I’d throw it away. It’s just a metal object with no material value. It represents a gift from your husband’s ex. If he was smart, he would get rid of it so you wouldn’t have to decide for him.

What’s the best horse gift you got for Christmas?

By admin on Jan. 16, 2010.

I know for most of us horse crazy girls (and guys) it would be a horse (I didn’t get one yet!) but what else?

Horse games?
Horse books?
Tack?
Horse clothes?

Tell me what you got and love!

well i’m not really a big fan about horses but my cuz is! she is obsessed with horses! She got a horse brush with a horse shoe and the horse hair comber!! :) lolz she is obsessed with horses!

Isn’t this cute!? i’m considering getting this for my room. Any other horsey decor ideas?

I want to get this to hang above my bed. My room is lime green though…would the colors look ok together? What other horse decor ideas do you have? I have my ribbons up but I only have 6 ribbons because I’ve only been in 2 shows… hopefully will go to more and get more ribbons soon :)

I did a photoshopped pic for you… http://s1005.photobucket.com/albums/af174/Michaelaaa7/?action=view&current=kkkkkkkjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj.jpg
I think it matches, you walls may not be the same though.

And I think get some neat colourful horse ornaments like this:
or this: http://www.daiboyztrading.co.uk/leonardohorses_BrownHorse.JPG
A black horse would look great in your room, adds to contrast :)

Hope I helped
