where did the saying "Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth" come from?
By admin on Jan. 25, 2010.
I know what it means when you use it, but why? What is the history of this little saying?
Something like this: the value of a horse is related it its age – i.e., a younger horse is more valuable than an older horse.
You can determine the relative age of a horse by inspecting its teeth.
Back in the day, a horse was commonly given as a gift.
If a man received a horse as a gift, and then inspected inside its mouth, he was trying to assess the value of the gift he received. So, the saying means that you should not assess the value of any gift that you receive; rather you should be thankful for the thoughtfulness of the gift-giver
How can I store my tack inside my house?
By admin on Jan. 25, 2010.
I don’t have a tack room in my barn. I also have a moisture problem and my leather items get moldy very easily in the barn. I’m thinking of storing my tack in my house. I have a sunroom that really needs to double as a mudroom anyway. I’m thinking of re-decorating the room in an equestrian theme and storing my tack in that room as part of the decor. I would only need to store two saddles, bridles, martingales and leather girths as well as my riding boots. Everything else can stay in the barn.
Do you think this will work? Will the tack make my house smell like horse? Am I just inviting more dirt into the house?
Any sites you know of with photos I could consult for tackroom decor ideas? I need a source for really fancy brass racks and hangers too!

and for hooks go to your local store and buy brass hooks and some oil and soak the brass in the oil to give them character

Does anyone know where to buy cheap clavamox tabs for my cat online without a script?
By admin on Jan. 25, 2010.
I am so sick of these search results that come up then you need a script which is just an excuse to donate $$ to your vet. My vet is thirty miles away and Redfern the King of Donuts cat just has a little sneezing/congestion. Don’t get me wrong, I respect and value my vet but like the human medical care machine some things are not worth paying for. Yes, I know I can buy the human equivalent called Augmentin from my friends in Thailand at www.vrdrug.com (if you have need for stuff they are awesome) but it is a bit pricey. www.discountpetmeds.com happily took my info for 29 cents per dose then took two days to tell me they need a script. such BS! OK animal lovers, show me what u got!!!!!
P.S. we are the home of over twenty strays, all vetted and fixed, as well as Diablo the Bad Black Ox (saved from slaughter at three days old) and Galahad and Lancelot, two half brother horses that were destined for the glue factories in Canada. I am barren and these are my children that are a gift.
I would suggest you get a prescription for human and then dilute it down. The reason they are concerned about the drug is the indiscriminate use that has led to the resistant strains of staph bacteria. I can do the dilution rates for you if you wish. The tablet is put into solution to be used with in 10 days. It’s not that it goes bad in ten days as much as this is not to be used for chronic conditions. I’ll get back with you. I don’t have my email listed but will do so shortly. I’m setting up this computer now and may have to reload every thing. My computer needs some viral meds if the surgery doesn’t work.

Horse Stuff? .?
By admin on Jan. 22, 2010.
where can i buy horse stuff [online]
like
picture frames
jewelry
rugs
bedding stuff
not actual horse care things
just like horse decorations and stuff.
thank you
Many of the things you mentioned are actually on the sites and catlogs that sell regular tack and things. I know several of the catalogs sell some nice house things tward the back.
Such sites as horse.com
others such as Horse feathers sells to a younger crowd (kids and teens) and sells hardly any horse care goods.
Still there have been some unexpected finds in un horse related catlogs such as collections, ltd and ABC that have been know to have some nice decor with a cowboy/horse theme.

Ideas for a horse-related polyanna gift?
By admin on Jan. 22, 2010.
So my barn is having its annual christmas party at my trainer’s house. We’re doing a Pollyanna. We drew names today. I’m stumped as to what I should get, so I need some creative ideas.
The girl has her own pony (palomino halflinger) named Daisy. The girl herself is… somewhere between 10 and 12. I know shes not older than 12, but defiantly not younger than 10.
I was thinking about getting her a Breyer horse, but then I thought that shes only a few years younger than me and I wouldn’t really want a horse figurine thingy.
The price range is between 10 and 25 maybe 30 dollars.
Then I thought maybe a grooming kit thingy- everyone can always use new brushes and stuff. Maybe like a little basket with a brush, curry comb, hoof pick, lead line, sweat scraper, maybe even a crop. Theres an equine store that has cheap grooming stuff that’ll last a while.
Or, I though of a gift card… but I don’t want to seem like im lazy and don’t care.
So any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
(PS- I cant get a halter for the pony… I know that the girl, Madi, just got her a brand new really nice leather one. =) )
Thanks!
Horse lover- Under $30. A blanket itself would probably be $60 +. (:
And the food idea seems kinda cool. =) Maybe a food item for her and her pony… like treats or somthing. Nice idea!
I think a grooming kit would be kind of cool. You could put it in a basket and tie a christmas bow around it and make it look festive. Also, you could not only put stuff in there for her horse, but for her as well. Maybe like some bottles of bright nailpolish, make some cookies and put them in there, stuff like that. You could also put some horse treats in there too.

my new horse’s bad attitude!!!!?
By admin on Jan. 22, 2010.
My new mare was a gift to me for christmas and i lover her so so so so much. But i cant keep on ridding her cause she has such a bad attitude. What can i do to fix the attitude.
she was doing great for the first 2 weeks and i was ridding her almost every day but then she got worse snd worse evry day. The bad thing is she is five years old and has only had about 90 days of raining the lady we bouf=ght her from lied about my mare.
You need to be the boss. Work with her on the ground and don’t let her take advantage of you. Don’t ever back down from her. For example, if she makes a face or tries to bite you, don’t back away. Instead, push her and make her back out of your space.
When you ride her, you need to have a correct position. If you screw up, you give her an excuse to be nasty. You also need to have an attitude when you ride her. If you politely ask her to do something and she is rude, you need to get tough and demand that she respects you. I’m not saying to abuse her, but you need to be in charge. For instance, if she is refusing to go forward, hit her with the stick. Is it nicer to hit her, use the spurs, and spin her in tight circles; or to let her back up, rear, fall over backwards, and crack her head open? It is in both of your best interests for you to be in charge.
One thing I will say about mares, is that I generally try to avoid fighting with them. So, which is why I would push her away from you if she tries to bite, instead of screaming at her and smacking her. When you ride her, don’t override her because she won’t like that. But if she does misbehave, you need to react. You also need to remember that mares go into season, and sometimes you need to give them some time off because they are difficult to handle.
It sounds like you aren’t that experienced of a rider, and she is green. Seek professional help. You may even want to consider selling her or returning her to her old owners, and getting an older horse. Although you love her, your safety should be your first priority.

Toy horse from the 90′s, what is she?
By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.
I’ve had this toy horse for a long time, but I have no idea what she is! she has real eyelashes, and her saddle pops open when you put the key in. She also comes with costume jewelry hidden in her saddle. pic: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y248/t3hcuteone/ponies/who.jpg
there’s no markings on her what-so-ever. no logo nothing. I have no clue who made her.
It sounds like a My Little Pony.?

12 year old girl gifts. (she’s a tomboy)?
By admin on Jan. 19, 2010.
I need some gift ideas for my little sister. She’s 12, shes a tomboy. She loves horse, being in mud, dirt, cow poop! (everything outside). I’m not giving her money, or gift cards, only things that she can open. I really don’t know what to get, she doesn’t like make up. She already has: iPod, cell phone, computer, PS3, Nintendo DS, Wii, Wii Fit, a horse, a trampoline, and electric scooter, a pogo stick. She sounds spoiled, but shes really not.
Please give me some good ideas!!!
Remember she’s a TOM BOY!
Sorry to tell you but any 12 yr old who has all that is spoiled!! What 12 yr old needs a cell phone and there own comp??? But anyways…maybe she could use new jeans? Or some games for her many, expensive game systems..
